I think we all appreciate the economc benefits of shopping local, but we believe it’s also a better all round experience for everyone. Local owners are passionate about their businesses, offering local artwork, fashions, local produce and eating experiences not found in the major chains. Whether you take a casual summer stroll up the street from the Inn, or go directly into Orleans, there’s something for everyone here. On Main Street there’s not a major brand store in sight, yes you really can “Shop Local”.
There really is a transformation occuring in retail and we can see it here. Check out some of our favorite establishments nearby:
Adorn: It doesn’t get any more Shop Local than Adorn . Just a 2 minute walk from the Inn, Adorn features a curated selection of jewelry, art, gifts and unique home and lifestyle goods. Adorn supports independent artists, designers, and makers, many of whom are local to Cape Cod
Nauset Farms: We love Nauset Farms. Right across the road from us, Nauset Farms offers a fabulous deli counter, fresh made to order sandwiches, a great beer and wine selection, pastries and cakes to die for and lots more in a vibrant farm shop environment.
Addison Art: Many of our favorite local artists exhibit here at Addison Art. The attached picture is our lounge painted by Paul Schulenburg at a Plein Air event in Orleans. The owner Helen Addison plays a lead role in local events incuding workshops, plein air activities, After Hopper events and regular exhibitions. Helen re-enforces why Shop Local is better for both the community and collector.
The Bird Watchers General Store: A Cape Cod destination for over thirty years, The Bird Watcher’s General Store is the original birding store, the first ever. It remains the largest shop dedicated to birding and bird feeding on the Cape. It’s quirky, the staff and owners are wonderful and it’s your orginal Shop Local store.
Orleans boutique clothing stores: Perhaps I should let Jo introduce this! We have lots to chose from but some of our (her) favorites, Salty Crown, Homegrown Boutique, If The Shoe Fits , Weekend and being so close to Nauset Beach we have to include a surf shop (okay two!), Nauset Surf Shop and The Pump House Surf Shop. All are locally owned, focus on smaller designer collections that inspire a sense of fun and style. Come and stay with us and Jo will be happy to share her thoughts!
Last thoughts, there is so much more to see and experience in Orleans, welcome to our little corner of the Cape.
The Parsonage Inn is just minutes from both the ocean and bayside beaches. The Inn is opposite one of the best Farm shops on the Cape, close to gorgeous local gift shops, restaurants and the highly rated Sundae School ice cream . Each of our rooms are individually appointed and we offer a delicious organic breakfast each morning.
Reserve your room today, we look forward to welcoming you to Orleans Cape Cod soon.
Great blogpost! I can see those shops in my mind.
